Ochsner Clinic Foundation is recruiting a pediatric anesthesiologist to join its pediatric anesthesia team in New Orleans, Louisiana. This is a growth position tied to sustained surgical volume increases and the opening of a new Children’s Hospital in 2028. At full staffing, the team will include five anesthesiologists on the pediatric cardiac service and ten general pediatric anesthesiologists.
The pediatric anesthesia service is on a defined path to becoming its own department when the new Children’s Hospital opens. Surgical volume has grown roughly 20% year over year since 2016, and the incoming physician joins a team that is building toward that expansion.
Setting: Hospital employed, academic-affiliated
Specialty: Pediatric Anesthesia
Reports to: Dr. David Broussard, Department Chair of Anesthesia
Position type: Growth position, additional headcount
Academic appointment: Available through Xavier School of Medicine
Patient definition: Pediatric through age 6 after hours, through age 12 for complex patients
Until the new Children’s Hospital opens, the role is a mixed practice. Once the new hospital opens, it becomes a pediatric-only practice. Physicians who want to continue taking adult cases can moonlight on nights or weekends. The group is open to accommodating a strong candidate’s preferences on this point as individual arrangements.
The pediatric anesthesia team supports a full surgical roster of pediatric specialists, including ENT, orthopedic surgery, urology, and neurosurgery. A dedicated pediatric cardiac anesthesia group handles heart cases.
