Position Overview

Understanding the Role

Astria Health is recruiting a full-time Wound Care Nurse Practitioner to lead and grow its hospital-based wound care program at Astria Sunnyside Hospital in Sunnyside, Washington. This is a permanent, employed position with a predictable Monday through Friday schedule and no call, no weekends, and no on-call obligations of any kind.

The program operates within a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital and currently serves approximately 60 active patients. The incoming provider will manage a full outpatient clinic, oversee inpatient and emergency department consults, and take the lead in revitalizing an underutilized hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) chamber. The organization has strong C-suite support and a committed nursing team in place. Leadership is actively investing in the program and looking for a provider who wants to build something meaningful for an underserved rural community.

Why This Role Stands Out

This is a rare opportunity to lead a specialty program, not simply fill a seat in one. The wound care clinic at Astria Sunnyside has the infrastructure, the patient need, and the leadership backing to grow significantly. The HBO chamber has been underutilized, and competitors in the region are not running active chamber programs. A provider with the experience, confidence, and drive to expand referral relationships and build chamber volume will find real room to make an impact.

The organization operates 20 outpatient facilities spanning the Lower Yakima Valley, all of which represent referral sources for the right provider. Astria Health also contracts with Healogics, which provides clinical support, EMR infrastructure, and a structured 40-hour HBO certification pathway for incoming providers.

The patient population is primarily Hispanic and Native American, with a high prevalence of diabetic foot ulcers, pressure injuries, and chronic wounds tied to social determinants of health. Providers who are motivated by serving underserved communities and who have the clinical skill and relational approach to build long-term patient relationships will find this work rewarding.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Astria Health is looking for a nurse practitioner who:

  • Has strong wound care experience and is comfortable managing a high-acuity chronic wound population independently
  • Is either HBO-certified or willing to complete the required 40-hour certification through the Healogics partnership
  • Can hold their own clinically and is assertive enough to build collaborative relationships with inpatient nursing staff, hospitalists, surgeons, and referring clinic providers
  • Is motivated to grow the program, not just maintain it, and is willing to engage with marketing, outreach, and referral development
  • Is comfortable working in a small, close-knit critical access environment where flexibility and adaptability matter

Bilingual Spanish/English skills are not required but would be a significant asset given the patient population.
