Position Overview

Understanding the Role

A Balanced Practice in a Supportive Environment

As you step into the Marshall Cancer Center, you'll experience a practice setting designed with physician success in mind. This role offers the opportunity to join a well-established cancer program where you'll practice comprehensive hematology and oncology care while enjoying the support of an experienced clinical team and the resources of UC Davis Health. Unlike many academic settings where subspecialization narrows your scope, or high-volume private practices where productivity pressures compromise quality, this position offers a true balance – the chance to practice full-spectrum oncology care with the ideal patient volume and exceptional support systems.

Your practice will include approximately 75% oncology and 25% hematology patients, allowing you to maintain broad clinical skills while focusing on the most common cancers affecting this community. With a service area encompassing El Dorado County and beyond, you'll be providing vital cancer care to patients who would otherwise need to travel significant distances. Many patients travel from as far as 100 miles away to receive care at this center, underscoring the essential role you'll play in this community's healthcare system.

  • Well-established practice in a purpose-built cancer center with integrated services including diagnostic imaging, infusion services, pharmacy, and comprehensive patient support resources
  • Opportunity to see 14–16 patients daily with a workflow that balances productivity with quality care
  • UC Davis affiliation providing access to virtual tumor boards across all subspecialties, clinical trials infrastructure, and referral pathways for complex cases
  • Four-day clinical week with a fifth day dedicated to administrative tasks

The Marshall Cancer Center serves a growing population in El Dorado County and the surrounding areas, with 77+ new oncology referrals processed monthly. This demand ensures a steady clinical practice with the opportunity to build lasting relationships with patients and referring providers. While able to handle most cancer care needs, the relationship with UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center provides seamless referral pathways for highly complex cases or clinical trial enrollments that may be best managed at an academic center.

As a UC Davis physician practicing at Marshall Medical Center, you'll hold dual appointments – a primary appointment within UC Davis Health and a voluntary faculty appointment with the UC Davis School of Medicine. This arrangement provides the perfect balance of community practice with academic resources and connections.

This position represents an opportunity to join a thriving cancer program experiencing sustained growth. Due to increasing patient volume and expanding service needs, the center is adding this position to ensure continued excellent care for the community while maintaining an optimal work-life balance for providers.
