Your daily practice at Marshall Cancer Center will encompass the full spectrum of adult hematology and oncology, allowing you to utilize your broad training while building expertise in the most common cancer types seen in this community. Breast and lung cancers represent the highest volume, followed by prostate and gastrointestinal malignancies, providing a diverse but manageable case mix. You'll also manage a variety of benign hematologic conditions, accounting for approximately 25% of your practice.
The clinic workflow is designed for both efficiency and quality care. The typical template is 60 minutes for new patients and 30 minutes for established patients. The staff is also very receptive and able to adapt to your preferred workflow and patient scheduling. This template allows you to provide comprehensive care while achieving productivity goals without the rushed pace common in many practices. Unlike settings where physicians are constantly juggling excessive patient loads, you'll have the time to develop meaningful relationships with your patients and deliver truly personalized care.
You'll be supported by a dedicated team including a medical assistant assigned exclusively to you, a clinic nurse who assists with triage and in-basket management, and front office staff who handle scheduling and patient check-in. The on-site pharmacy team plays an integral role in your practice, helping with treatment plan entry, dose adjustments, and proactive management of patients on oral chemotherapy regimens. Pharmacists often collaborate directly with physicians on rash assessments, toxicity management, and treatment plan customization.
The Marshall Cancer Center features an integrated clinical research program with a dedicated on-site Clinical Research Coordinator who prescreens patients for appropriate trials. As a UC Davis affiliated physician, you'll have full access to enroll patients in clinical trials with minimal administrative burden. The research infrastructure, including regulatory affairs and quality assurance, is fully supported by UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center.
This position offers an ideal clinical environment where you can practice high-quality, evidence-based oncology without the administrative burdens and productivity pressures common in many settings. The strong multidisciplinary approach, exceptional support staff, and integration of research into community practice create a fulfilling practice setting that prioritizes both physician satisfaction and patient outcomes.
