Physician Recruitment Process and Compensation Overview

Competitive Rewards for Your Expertise and Commitment

As a hematologist-oncologist at Marshall Cancer Center, you'll receive a compensation package that recognizes your specialized training, expertise, and contributions to patient care. UC Davis Health offers a competitive structure that rewards both your professional qualifications and your productivity, allowing you to achieve financial success while maintaining work-life balance. Unlike private practice models where compensation fluctuates dramatically with market forces, this employed position provides financial stability while still offering incentives for clinical productivity.

Your compensation package will include a highly competitive base salary at or above the 75th percentile for hematology-oncology physicians based on your experience and qualifications. This substantial base compensation is complemented by a productivity-based incentive program that can add up to 20% of your base salary annually when you meet achievable clinical targets. This balanced approach rewards clinical excellence without creating the pressure to compromise quality or patient satisfaction.

  • Competitive base salary in the range of $475,000–$550,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Production incentive opportunity of up to $61,000 annually for meeting RVU targets (approximately 6,200 RVUs)
  • Tiered incentive structure where you earn $30,500 bonus at 90% of target and an additional $30,500 bonus at 100% of target
  • Medical Director Role available ($20,000 stipend)
  • Projected total annual income of $536,000–$611,000 (base + incentive) once fully established in practice
  • $20,000–$30,000 sign-on bonus with a three-year service commitment
  • Relocation allowance of up to $15,000 to assist with your move to the area
  • Potential for additional compensation for weekend clinics if desired

Beyond direct financial compensation, you'll benefit from UC Davis Health's comprehensive benefits package that provides security for you and your family. The benefits program reflects the organization's commitment to physician wellness and long-term financial security.

  • Choice between a defined benefit pension plan (with 8% employer contribution) or a 401(k)-style plan based on your preference
  • Additional retirement savings opportunities through 403(b), 457(b), and 401(a) plans
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance with generous employer contributions
  • 24 days of paid time off annually, increasing to 27 days after five years and 30 days after ten years
  • 14 paid holidays annually, separate from PTO accrual
  • $7,000 annual CME allowance with up to five days of time off specifically for CME activities
  • Exceptional malpractice coverage with tail policy through UC Davis

Your compensation at Marshall Cancer Center reflects both the value you bring to the practice and the quality of life this opportunity offers. While the financial package is highly competitive with comparable community positions, the true value extends beyond the numbers to include professional satisfaction, manageable patient volumes, and a supportive practice environment free from the administrative burdens common in many settings.

The combination of substantial base compensation, achievable incentives, and comprehensive benefits creates a package that rewards your expertise while providing the security and stability that allows you to focus on what matters most—delivering excellent patient care in a sustainable, fulfilling practice environment.
