A Century of Caring at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital

MedStar St. Mary's Hospital recently celebrated a century of caring for our community—our neighbors, friends, and family members. For over 100 years, our hospital has been a steadfast part of the Southern Maryland community, and throughout that time, our mission has remained the same.

Founded in 1912 by a group of seven visionaries, the hospital was created as a place where people could receive quality medical care in a setting of comfort and compassion. While healthcare and medical technology have evolved dramatically, St. Mary's remains a center of compassionate, quality care—the kind that would make our founders proud.

Centennial Highlights

• Centennial Video – A documentary-style film featuring archival photos, historic footage, and interviews with physicians, employees, volunteers, and administrators.
• Centennial Memorabilia – A commemorative collection including a 100-year history book, a custom deck of cards, and other mementos that tell our story through the voices of the MedStar St. Mary's community.
• Art & Essay Contest – A celebration of creativity from our community's youth, with more than 100 submissions and several essay winners recognized for their insight and talent.
