HMC also draws patients from as far as Salem, Newport, Seaside, Astoria, and Columbia County. Patients from smaller coastal hospitals often travel to HMC for services their local facilities don't offer.
HMC imaging volume grew from about 68,000 studies in 2019 to 109,000 in the most recent fiscal year. Much of that growth came from coordinated scheduling between HMC and OHSU, which lets patients move to whichever site has the earliest access. As volume has grown, so has the complexity of the cases HMC sees.
HMC operates as part of a local network that includes:
Clinical services at HMC include emergency and inpatient care, diagnostic imaging, interventional radiology, a cardiac catheterization lab, echocardiography, a dedicated breast center, nuclear cardiology, neurosurgery and spine care, orthopedics, general surgery, and a mobile mammography program serving seven counties.
HMC's radiologists are employed directly by OHSU, and the group joined OHSU in 2020. That relationship gives you:
OHSU is Portland's largest employer and operates hospitals and clinics across Oregon and Southwest Washington. HMC also participates in accountable care organizations, including Health Share of Oregon.
HMC is a community hospital and does not host radiology residents. Physician assistant students from Pacific University and imaging students complete rotations in the department.
