Our Team

You would join an established and growing orthopedic team at Good Shepherd Orthopedics, the premier orthopedic services provider in Eastern Oregon. The group combines high-volume joint replacement and sports medicine surgeons with podiatry and physiatry support, all working out of a newly renovated 13,000-square-foot clinic directly across from the hospital. The practice originated as a private group before joining the health system and is actively expanding its surgical capacity and provider base.

Orthopedic Surgeons

• James Whittum, MD, hand fracture care and joint replacements
• Patrick Dawson, MD, sports medicine
• Tamara Simpson, MD, sports medicine and trauma
• Matthew Thompson, MD, total joints, limb salvage, trauma, and orthopedic oncology

Podiatry and Physiatry

• Kyle Duncan, DPM, podiatry
• Trey Rigert, MD, physical medicine and rehabilitation

Team Structure and Support

• Most current surgeons focus on knees and above, leaving hand and foot and ankle volume available for an incoming surgeon
• Podiatry handles the majority of foot and ankle cases
• MA and scribe support available to surgeons
• Close collaboration with the on-site physical and occupational therapy team
• Active physician assistant recruitment underway to add APP support in the clinic

Practice Culture

This is a collaborative, growth-oriented group operating in a brand-new facility built to expand the team. The orthopedic practice is building toward an Orthopedic Center of Excellence, and the surgeons treat patients of all ages across a wide service area. Leadership opportunities are available for surgeons interested in helping shape the program.
