Position Overview

Understanding the Role

Your Opportunity in Montana's Capital Region

As a Rheumatologist joining Benefis Health System, you will step into a practice where your expertise is urgently needed and deeply valued. Montana faces a significant shortage of rheumatology physicians, and patients across the region travel hours to receive care. This creates an immediate, established patient base and the rare opportunity to make a profound difference in a community that has long awaited consistent specialty access.

Your practice will be based in a brand-new multi-specialty building in Helena, Montana's capital city, which opened in May 2024. The facility features modern clinic spaces designed for efficient patient care, with radiology, laboratory, specialty pharmacy, and a 16-chair infusion suite all under one roof. You will never need to send patients across town for imaging, labs, or infusions. Everything your rheumatology practice requires is steps away.

This is an outpatient-only position with no call obligations and no weekend requirements. You choose the schedule that works for your life, whether that means a traditional five-day week or a compressed three- or four-day schedule. Clinics operate Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and you determine your patient volume and practice pace.

Position Highlights:

  • Outpatient rheumatology practice in Helena, Montana, with the option for Great Falls location
  • Flexible scheduling: 3-, 4-, or 5-day work weeks available
  • No call, no weekends, no hospital rounding requirements
  • New multi-specialty facility (opened May 2024) with integrated services
  • Infusion suite, MSK ultrasound, DEXA, laboratory, and specialty pharmacy onsite
  • Telehealth capabilities and outreach clinic opportunities if desired
  • Option to hire and mentor an Advanced Practice Provider for additional support
  • J1 waiver and H1B visa sponsorship available for qualified candidates

Service Area and Community Need:

Benefis Health System covers approximately one-quarter of Montana's land mass, an area comparable in size to Kansas. You will serve as the primary rheumatology resource for this vast region, as patients currently travel hours for specialty care. The demand for rheumatology services far exceeds current capacity, and you will inherit an established referral network from Internal Medicine and Family Medicine physicians throughout the service area.

The current locums provider, who has served the practice for nine years, describes the patient population as complex and high-acuity. Patients present with advanced disease requiring sophisticated management, offering the intellectual challenge and clinical satisfaction that drew you to rheumatology in the first place.

Qualifications:

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
  • Completion of ACGME-accredited Rheumatology fellowship
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Rheumatology
  • Eligible for Montana medical licensure

Practice Structure:

This is a full-time employed position with Benefis Health System, a financially stable, not-for-profit organization. You will have dedicated leadership support as you build and develop your practice, with the resources of Montana's largest health system behind you. The organization is committed to physician autonomy and will work with you to structure a practice that aligns with your clinical interests and lifestyle goals.

For physicians requiring immigration support, Benefis offers J1 waiver sponsorship through the Conrad 30 program and H1B visa transfers. The organization has an experienced immigration team with a perfect track record; every case submitted has been approved.

Whether you are seeking a full-time position to build a comprehensive rheumatology program or a part-time role that allows for greater work-life balance, Benefis is prepared to customize this opportunity to meet your needs.
