Step into a role where academic excellence meets real-world impact at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine. As a faculty gastroenterologist within the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, you will contribute to one of the nation’s top-ranked digestive health programs, centered at the H.H. Chao Comprehensive Digestive Disease Center. Your practice will integrate state-of-the-art patient care, teaching, and research in an environment that values collegiality, collaboration, and innovation.

You will serve a diverse population across Orange County from a brand-new, $1.3 billion all-electric medical campus in Irvine, California—set to open in 2025. The service area encompasses some of the fastest-growing and most dynamic communities in Southern California, with tremendous demand for both general and specialty GI services.

Your role will be tailored to your area of expertise: General Gastroenterology, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), or Hepatology. In each track, you will enjoy a structured schedule combining outpatient clinic blocks, endoscopy sessions, and protected academic time. With fellows taking first call and a 1:13 call ratio shared among attendings, work-life balance is a central tenet of the department’s culture.

  • Serve patients at a cutting-edge facility on a sustainable, all-electric medical campus
  • Choose from focused tracks in General GI, IBD, or Hepatology, with personalized academic and clinical time
  • Hepatology faculty do not participate in general GI call
  • Required: MD or equivalent, Board Certification in Gastroenterology, California licensure (or eligibility)
  • Academic interests and track record in teaching or research highly preferred
  • Full-time schedule: typically 8 clinical blocks (4 clinic, 4 endo) plus 2 academic/admin blocks per week
  • New positions created due to expansion and patient demand
  • Report to Division Chief; opportunities available for leadership roles such as Program Director or Associate Chief
  • Track Designation: HS is more common for a clinically focused practice. Clinical X is more common for physicians focused on research and running clinical trials
