Understanding the Role

Pediatric Cardiologist Opportunity

As you step into the role of Pediatric Cardiologist at Ochsner Health Center for Children, you will join a thriving healthcare system in a vibrant community with substantial growth and opportunity. This position offers the perfect balance of clinical variety, professional autonomy, and quality of life that's increasingly difficult to find in metropolitan academic centers.

You will partner with Dr. Lindle, the highly respected pediatric cardiologist who currently manages a growing volume of both outpatient and inpatient cardiac cases across multiple facilities. Your arrival will help meet the increasing demand for specialized pediatric cardiac care in a growing community and a hospital that delivers over 3,300 babies annually with a recently expanded 46-bed NICU.

Service Area and Community Need

The Ochsner Lafayette General service area encompasses approximately eight parishes with nearly 750,000 residents, creating a substantial population base for your practice. As the region's premier healthcare provider, you'll serve families from throughout Acadiana who presently have limited access to pediatric subspecialty care. The community's exceptional growth in birth rate and inpatient services has created significant demand for additional pediatric cardiology support.

  • Weekly consultations for NICU patients with expanding volumes as the facility grows
  • Regular inpatient consultations for pediatric unit and mother-baby services
  • Opportunity to develop fetal echocardiography services, currently limited in the region
  • Potential to establish outreach clinics in neighboring communities

Required Qualifications

  • MD/DO degree with completion of an accredited pediatric cardiology fellowship
  • Board certification/eligibility in pediatric cardiology
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and collaborative practice
  • Excellent clinical judgment with the ability to function both independently and as part of a team
  • Self-motivated practitioner with strong interpersonal skills

Schedule and Practice Structure

Your work schedule will offer predictability and balance, with approximately eight half-day sessions per week structured primarily Monday through Friday. You'll enjoy:

  • Mix of outpatient clinic time and inpatient consultations
  • Dedicated time for echocardiogram interpretation
  • Collaborative call coverage with Dr. Lindle
  • Light call burden with potential for remote coverage via telemedicine
  • Close relationships with Ochsner pediatric cardiology colleagues in New Orleans for complex case management

This opportunity represents a chance to make a significant impact in a community that genuinely needs your expertise, while maintaining a practice pace that allows for true work-life balance in one of Louisiana's most livable cities.
