Position Overview

Understanding the Role

UT Regional One Physicians (UTROP) is recruiting a full-time, board-certified or board-eligible Emergency Medicine physician for the Emergency Department at Regional One Health in Memphis, Tennessee. The position includes a faculty appointment with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) Department of Emergency Medicine.

Regional One Health is the region's major referral destination for trauma and burn care and a safety-net hospital for patients who often have nowhere else to go. In this role, you will care for a high-acuity, medically complex population, teach Emergency Medicine residents one on one, and help build the department's permanent physician team.

Why the Position Is Open

The department is growing its permanent physician team toward a target of approximately 12.5 physician FTEs. Current staffing is below that target, and locum physicians help cover shifts in the meantime. This creates an immediate need and gives incoming physicians a meaningful role in shaping how the department operates, teaches, and grows.

Service Area and Community Need

Regional One Health serves Memphis and a broad Mid-South region. The Emergency Department is the hospital's primary point of entry, with approximately 76% of hospital admissions coming through the ED.

  • Only Level I trauma center within 150 miles
  • Approximately 13,000 trauma encounters last year
  • Burn referrals from up to approximately 400 miles away
  • Safety-net care for an underserved and medically complex population

Practice Setting

The department operates two distinct ED environments. Full-time physicians work both, typically close to a half-and-half split, with the exact mix varying month to month.

  • Protected time and stipends for defined roles are determined based on the role
