As Division Chief of Abdominal Imaging at UC Davis Health, you will lead one of the most respected abdominal imaging divisions in the region from within a top-ranked California hospital system. This is a full-time faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor rank, with appointment in either the Professor of Clinical Radiology or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series based on your experience and credentials. You will assume responsibility for a 12-physician division that serves as the backbone of diagnostic imaging across a 33-county service area spanning 65,000 square miles.
Your days will balance clinical excellence with academic leadership. The position offers 50-70% clinical time, with the remaining protected time divided between academic pursuits (20-30% depending on your series track) and division leadership responsibilities (10%). Additional directorships are available for faculty seeking expanded administrative roles, each carrying its own protected time allocation.
Your role extends well beyond clinical practice. You will provide strategic vision for the division's future, mentor faculty and fellows, and guide the professional development of team members at every stage of their careers. The division is in active growth mode, with plans to recruit 3-4 new faculty members over the next one to two years. You will lead these recruitment efforts while also establishing new collaborative relationships, particularly with Oncology, where significant opportunities for development remain untapped.
Your academic responsibilities will vary based on your appointment series. In the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series, you will focus on patient care, public and university service, and teaching with opportunities for scholarly or creative work. In the Clinical "X" series, expectations include patient care, active research, teaching, and university service. Both tracks position you to contribute meaningfully to the academic mission while maintaining clinical excellence.
UC Davis seeks a leader with academic radiology experience who can serve as a true presence within the organization. You should be a visionary thinker with strong collaborative instincts, someone who works effectively across divisions and departments. A strong commitment to the academic mission is essential, as is the ability to mentor junior faculty and demonstrate teaching excellence. The ideal candidate will have good professional contacts and aspirations to increase the division's national exposure.
This position offers a rare opportunity to lead a premier abdominal imaging division within a nationally recognized academic medical center, shaping both clinical care and the careers of future radiologists while advancing your own scholarly pursuits.
