Understanding the Role

Lake Charles Memorial Health System is recruiting an interventional cardiologist to join a high-volume, well-established cardiovascular program. The incoming physician joins a five-cardiologist group that produces between 13,000 and 19,000 wRVUs annually per physician, supported by three cath labs, a hybrid OR, and a strong APP team. This is an active procedural practice with real volume and a clear path to productivity.

Why This Position Exists

The program is growing and needs an additional interventional cardiologist to support procedural volume, expand device capabilities, and balance call responsibilities across the group. One of the two physicians currently performing device implantation is approaching retirement, making a device-capable recruit a priority. The incoming physician will step into an active practice with established referral pipelines and immediate procedural volume.

Core Responsibilities

Procedural

  • Diagnostic coronary angiography and coronary stenting
  • Acute coronary intervention
  • Peripheral angiography and peripheral vascular intervention
  • Pacemaker and ICD implantation (preferred)
  • Loop recorder placement

Clinical

  • Half-day clinic / half-day cath lab daily rotation
  • Inpatient cardiology consults and rounding
  • Interpretation of diagnostic studies (echocardiography, nuclear stress, Holter, treadmill stress) within 48 hours

Outreach

  • Participation in satellite clinic coverage at Sulphur, Jennings, and/or DeRidder
  • Outreach is generally expected for newer physicians; some long-tenured physicians practice exclusively at the main campus

Schedule Structure

Cardiologists rotate between clinic and cath lab throughout the day in a flexible daily structure.

Call Structure

Weekend call Rotating among the group
Cath lab call team 4-person team for emergency procedures

One senior physician currently takes reduced call per hospital bylaws. This does not affect the advertised schedule for the incoming physician.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO with completed cardiology fellowship
  • Interventional cardiology fellowship required
  • Board certified or board eligible in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology
  • Experience with or interest in device implantation (pacemakers, ICDs) strongly preferred
  • Louisiana medical license or eligibility to obtain
