Position Overview

Understanding the Role

Academic Excellence Meets Clinical Autonomy

As you step into your role as an Advanced GI Hospitalist at UT Health Tyler, you'll experience the perfect balance of clinical excellence and academic medicine in a supportive and dynamic environment. This position offers you the opportunity to join a respected gastroenterology division where you'll practice advanced endoscopy while enjoying the manageable 7-on/7-off schedule that provides true work-life integration.

Unlike high-volume private practices where productivity pressures can compromise quality, or traditional academic centers where administrative burdens overwhelm clinical time, this role offers the ideal blend – meaningful clinical work with the resources of an academic medical center.

Your practice will center on providing specialized GI consultation services within a Level 1 trauma setting, where your advanced procedural skills in ERCP will be essential, with EUS capabilities welcomed but not required. With a service area encompassing East Texas and beyond, you'll be providing critical advanced gastroenterology care to patients throughout the region, serving as a vital member of the only Level 1 trauma center in the area.

  • Established position within a growing gastroenterology division that values both clinical excellence and work-life balance
  • Opportunity to perform 6–8 procedures daily within a well-structured workflow that respects your time and expertise
  • Integration with UT Tyler School of Medicine providing teaching opportunities without burdensome academic requirements
  • Clean 7-on/7-off block schedule with support from NPs and GI fellows, allowing for true separation between work and personal life
  • Board Certification/Eligibility in Gastroenterology required, with advanced endoscopy skills (ERCP required, EUS preferred)

UT Health Tyler serves a diverse population with a wide range of gastroenterological needs, ensuring a stimulating practice with exposure to both common and complex cases. The established referral network ensures a steady flow of patients requiring your specialized expertise, while the collaborative team environment provides the support needed to deliver exceptional care.

This position represents an opportunity to join a growing and highly respected gastroenterology division that's experiencing sustained growth. With UT Health's commitment to expanding GI services and the recent recruitment of additional specialists, you'll be joining at an exciting time of development while maintaining an optimal work-life balance that many physicians only dream of achieving.
