Physician Recruitment Process and Compensation Overview

Rewarding Careers with Stability and Growth

UCI Health offers a compensation structure that goes beyond competitive salaries. Each neurology position is backed by a comprehensive benefits package, performance-based incentives, and opportunities for long-term financial security. Whether you’re focused on research, teaching, or clinical excellence, you’ll be rewarded not just for what you do—but how you do it.

The compensation structure prioritizes fairness and transparency, using AAMC benchmarks instead of MGMA metrics. Incentive bonuses are built around RVU thresholds that are realistic and physician-friendly.

Additionally, the financial structure allows for role customization—if you choose to reduce clinical time for research, education, or administrative leadership, your salary adjusts proportionally but supportively. The model is designed to reward quality care without encouraging overwork.

  • Base salary range: $220,000–$289,940; most new hires start around $250,000
  • Productivity bonus: RVU target based on AAMC
  • It will vary by specialty, but most existing Neurologists are making between $300,000 – $350,000 with their salary and bonuses
  • Transparent metrics: Based on academic standards, not volume-maximization
  • Retirement plans: 401(k), 457(b), 403(b), and defined benefit UC pension plan
  • Insurance coverage: Full suite of medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance
  • Paid time off: 192 hours PTO, 21 CME days, 6 sick days annually
  • CME support: CME allowance and support for licensing, memberships, and board recertification
  • Loan forgiveness: Qualifies for PSLF (Public Service Loan Forgiveness) program

Each neurology position at UCI Health provides a tailored financial foundation that supports not only your current lifestyle, but your future goals—whether clinical, academic, or personal.
