Position Overview

Understanding the Role

A Regional ENT Practice With Immediate Impact

You will join Sanford Health Bismarck as a general ENT physician serving as the primary surgical and clinical resource for a vast regional population spanning western North Dakota, eastern Montana, and northern South Dakota. This replacement position offers immediate integration into an established, high-volume practice with strong advanced practice provider support, dedicated surgical block time, and a brand new clinic facility purpose-built for otolaryngology.

Sanford Medical Center Bismarck functions as the tertiary referral hub for this expansive geography, drawing patients who would otherwise travel hours to receive specialty ENT care. The community need is substantial: the current team of one full-time and one part-time ENT physician, supplemented by one community ENT, cannot fully meet regional demand. Your arrival addresses an immediate gap, and the practice has already identified a third ENT starting in 2027, with a long-term staffing target of approximately 3.5 FTEs.

  • General ENT position open to board-certified or board-eligible candidates, including new graduates and experienced surgeons
  • Immediate start available to replace departing physician
  • Regional tertiary referral center serving three-state catchment area
  • Practice growth trajectory with third ENT joining in 2027
  • J-1 visa sponsorship available for 2027 and beyond
  • Reports to Brad Eilers, Director of ENT

Practice Structure and Schedule

Your clinical week balances outpatient volume with protected surgical time. The practice supports a 4-day work week once you transition to the production compensation model, giving you control over your schedule as your efficiency and volume increase. Clinic days feature 22 to 25 patient encounters, with two full-time nurse practitioners and one part-time NP independently managing routine cases such as tubes and tonsils. This APP coverage allows you to focus on complex surgical cases and urgent consultations rather than straightforward follow-ups.

Two dedicated OR block days per week provide consistent, predictable surgical time at either the main hospital or the new Outpatient Surgery Center. You will not compete for operating room access or face the scheduling frustrations common at larger academic centers.

  • Full-time position with option for 4-day work week on production model
  • 22 to 25 patients per day in clinic
  • 2 dedicated OR block days weekly
  • Strong APP team handles routine cases independently
  • Collegial, collaborative group culture with strong physician retention
  • Optional outreach clinic in Dickinson, ND (1 day per month, 90 minutes west) for additional practice growth

This position offers the rare combination of high surgical volume, schedule flexibility, and strong support infrastructure within a stable, physician-centered health system that has demonstrated long-term commitment to its ENT program.
