Meet Our Team

The incoming urologist will join Centennial Urology Associates, a hospital-employed practice within Centennial Medical Group (CMG), a division of CHI Mercy Health. The practice reopened in 2024 after Roseburg went a decade without local urology, and currently operates with one urologist and one APP. The new urologist will become the practice's first full-time physician anchor, with strong APP support, an experienced clinical team, and immediate access to two on-site Da Vinci surgical robots.

Physician Team

Provider Role Training Highlights
Michael P. Gardner, MD Board-Certified Urological Surgeon (part-time, ~2 weeks per month) Oregon State University (Honors, Microbiology); Oregon Health Sciences University; Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society; General Surgery and Urology Residency at the University of Utah; Founder of Oregon Urology Alliance; practicing urologist in Tualatin, Oregon since 2001; joined Centennial Urology in 2025

Dr. Gardner alternates two weeks per month between his Tualatin practice and Roseburg, providing clinic and OR coverage during his time on site and taking 24/7 call when present. He does not perform robotic surgery, leaving the robotic OR block largely open for an incoming robotic-trained urologist. Dr. Gardner is the founder of the Oregon Urology Alliance and is committed to the small-practice, high-continuity care model that Centennial Urology operates under.

Advanced Practice Provider

Provider Role Training Highlights
Andrea James-Barber, DNP, FNP-C, DMP, MEd Family Nurse Practitioner (joined Centennial Urology in 2026; clinic-only role) Master of Education in Nursing Education from the University of Memphis; Master of Science in Nursing-Family Practice; Doctorate of Nursing from Chamberlain College of Nursing; 13+ years of nursing experience starting in critical care and high-acuity treatment, with subsequent outpatient practice; also holds Designated Medical Practitioner credential for Child Abuse/Maltreatment evaluation

Andrea sees clinic patients independently, manages routine and post-operative follow-up, and coordinates surgical scheduling with physician oversight. Her role is clinic-only and does not include hospital coverage or call.

Support Staff

  • Long-tenured medical assistant team, including an MA with 10+ years of clinical experience and a second MA with prior caregiving and nursing home background
  • Dedicated surgery scheduler with deep practice knowledge and surgical packet workflow expertise
  • Front office receptionist recruited from cardiology
  • ASC and main OR staff experienced with urologic surgery turnover and robotic case flow
  • Most clinic staff have been with the practice since its 2024 reopening

Practice Culture and Collaboration

Centennial Urology operates as a close-knit specialty practice with strong staff cohesion. The team describes itself as a "second family" and is intentional about building patient relationships that span years rather than single encounters. The practice works closely with hospitalist medicine, general surgery, nephrology (Centennial Kidney is part of the same medical group), oncology, the Mercy ASC, anesthesia, and emergency medicine. PMO governance handles OR block management and has been responsive to add-on case requests.

The leadership team is explicit about giving the incoming urologist a voice in shaping practice workflow, schedule structure, robotic surgery expansion, and procedural mix.
