Understanding the Role

Good Shepherd Medical Center is hiring an Adult Psychiatrist to join its behavioral health service line in Hermiston, Oregon. The role is primarily outpatient with integrated ED consultation responsibilities, no inpatient admit coverage, and a hybrid option that allows a portion of the work to be delivered via telepsychiatry. The incoming psychiatrist joins an established team and has the opportunity to shape how behavioral health services grow, including potential expansion into TMS and interventional psychiatry.

Role Purpose

  • Grow outpatient adult psychiatry access for a service population of approximately 75,000 across Umatilla and Morrow Counties
  • Provide ED consultation for acute psychiatric presentations on a scheduled basis (tele or in-person)
  • Partner with the existing adult and child psychiatrists to expand capacity
  • Help define clinic workflows, patient mix, and service line growth
  • Explore development of TMS and interventional psychiatry programs

Practice Setting

  • Community-owned, independent Critical Access Hospital with zero debt
  • Hospital-employed model
  • Outpatient-primary practice with ED consultation component (approximately 85% clinic, 15% hospital)
  • Hybrid option with telepsychiatry blend available
  • No inpatient psych unit at Good Shepherd; admitted psych patients are transferred to a substance use and behavioral health facility in Pendleton

Qualifications

  • Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Adult Psychiatry
  • Active or eligible Oregon license
  • Comfort with telepsychiatry and hybrid workflow
  • Interest in interventional psychiatry (TMS, ketamine) a plus
  • Openness to integrated care and therapy alongside medication management

Primary Responsibilities

  • Outpatient adult psychiatry, including medication management, follow-up, and panel development
  • ED consultation for acute psychiatric presentations (tele or on-site)
  • Phone consultation with hospitalists for admitted medical patients with psychiatric needs
  • Collaboration with existing adult and child psychiatrists on coverage and care coordination
  • Contribution to behavioral health service line growth and program development

Reporting and Service Area

The adult psychiatrist reports to Good Shepherd Medical Group leadership and collaborates with the existing psychiatry team, hospitalists, emergency department, and primary care. Good Shepherd Medical Center serves Hermiston and the surrounding Umatilla and Morrow County region in northeastern Oregon, with a referral reach that extends into southeastern Washington and the Tri-Cities corridor.
