Position Overview

Understanding the Role

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a urologist to join an established and growing urology program in Waxahachie, Texas, approximately 30 minutes south of Dallas. This is a hospital-employed position created to meet significant and documented patient demand in Ellis County. The region is experiencing rapid population growth, and the existing urology practice is operating well beyond its current capacity.

Practice Setting

The incoming physician will join Dr. Modi, a urologist with over ten years in the community and a well-developed referral base. The practice is busy, collaborative, and positioned for continued growth. Leadership has indicated the market can support up to three urologists total, making this an opportunity to build a full and sustainable practice from day one.

Why This Position Exists

Patient demand for urology services in Ellis County far exceeds current capacity. New patient wait times run approximately 8 to 9 weeks. Dr. Modi sees 30 to 37 patients per day, frequently adding patients on top of a full schedule. Roughly 52% of urology referrals in the county currently go to Dr. Modi, and a meaningful portion of cases still leave the system entirely due to limited availability.

Leadership expects a new physician to ramp faster than the typical 12 to 18 month window because the referral volume is already present and waiting.

Scope of Practice

  • General urology with strong volume in kidney stones, BPH, elevated PSA, and related conditions
  • Opportunity to incorporate lower-acuity conditions currently going unscheduled, including erectile dysfunction, Peyronie's disease, and low testosterone
  • Robotic surgery opportunity: Dr. Modi does not currently perform robotic cases due to time constraints, and the hospital is actively seeking to retain these cases locally rather than referring to Fort Worth
  • Physicians comfortable with robotic oncology will find strong institutional support for building that program

Schedule Structure

  • Clinic-based schedule with structured surgical block time
  • Monday afternoons: OR block time
  • Thursdays: procedures at a physician-owned surgery center
  • Friday afternoons: additional surgical time
  • Unused surgical blocks are typically converted to clinic sessions to manage patient volume
  • New OR capacity is being added as part of a broader facility expansion

Call Structure

Call responsibilities are manageable and overnight demands are minimal.

  • 5 days of call per month per physician
  • Physicians select preferred call days
  • Coverage is 24 hours for assigned days
  • ER physicians are trained to handle many basic urologic procedures independently, including difficult catheter placements and suprapubic tubes
  • Dr. Modi reports being called into the hospital overnight approximately once every 4 to 6 months

Ideal Candidate

  • Comfortable practicing general urology independently
  • Robotic surgical experience preferred, though not required
  • Interested in building a busy, high-volume practice
  • Collaborative and team-oriented
  • Committed to the community long term
  • New graduates with robotic training will be considered
