Meet Our Team

Established Primary Care Team

At CarolinaEast Health System, you'll join an established primary care network comprising five practice locations throughout the region, with New Bern serving as the focal point of these operations. The New Bern practices represent approximately half of the primary care market share in the community, with a strong reputation for quality and accessibility. The clinical team you'll work alongside includes experienced physicians who have dedicated significant portions of their careers to serving this community, creating a foundation of institutional knowledge and patient trust that benefits new providers.

You'll practice alongside a group of highly-regarded physicians including Dr. Michael Creta, Dr. Brent Gill, and Dr. George Moore, who together bring decades of experience and exceptional patient satisfaction ratings consistently above 4.5/5. This collaborative team offers diverse backgrounds and training experiences from respected institutions including East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine, Wake Forest School of Medicine, and international training programs. Their collective wisdom provides an invaluable resource for a new physician joining the practice, while your fresh perspectives will complement their established approaches.

  • Five primary care practice locations with New Bern as the primary focus for recruitment
  • Approximately 50% market share in New Bern, with significant presence in surrounding communities
  • Experienced physician colleagues with deep community connections and institutional knowledge
  • Highly-rated physicians with patient satisfaction scores ranging from 4.5–4.8 out of 5
  • Physicians with diverse training backgrounds and professional interests
  • One provider scheduled to leave in April, creating immediate patient care needs

Advanced Practice Provider Integration

Your practice will benefit from effective integration of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), who enhance patient access and extend the capabilities of the physician team. You'll have the opportunity to work with skilled professionals like Danielle Saikali, MS, APRN, FNPC, a Georgetown University-trained Family Nurse Practitioner with special interests in preventative health and overall wellness. CarolinaEast has embraced the evolving role of APPs in primary care, with several now managing their own patient panels under physician supervision, while others focus on acute care visits. This collaborative approach allows for more comprehensive patient care while providing physicians with collegial clinical partners.

The organization is strategically expanding its APP workforce, with a vision of approximately two APPs per physician—a model that will enhance your practice efficiency and patient access while providing appropriate compensation for your supervisory role.

  • Currently three APPs with another starting soon
  • Strategic plan for approximately two APPs per physician
  • $15,000 annual compensation for supervising APPs
  • Some APPs manage their own patient panels while others focus on acute visits
  • Compensation structure for APPs mirrors physician model, with WRVU-based productivity
  • Quality APP team members with advanced training from respected institutions

Support Staff

Your clinical work will be supported by a dedicated team of medical assistants, nurses, and administrative staff who understand the challenges of primary care and work collaboratively to enhance practice efficiency. These team members serve as the operational backbone of the practice, managing everything from patient communications to clinical preparation, allowing you to focus your energy on direct patient care.

  • Experienced clinical support staff assigned to work directly with you
  • Administrative team handling scheduling, registration, and insurance matters
  • Staff coverage aligned with physician schedules to ensure consistent support
  • Effective phone triage system for managing patient calls and clinical concerns

Practice Culture and Environment

While the primary care practices at CarolinaEast may not have the same social cohesion as some specialty departments like ENT and Urology (which are known for their particularly close-knit cultures), they offer a professional, respectful working environment where physicians can practice with autonomy while having necessary support. The primary care physicians operate somewhat more independently given the nature of their work, but still maintain collegial relationships and share the common goal of community health improvement.

Leadership is actively working to enhance the collaborative culture within primary care, recognizing that provider engagement is crucial for both physician satisfaction and successful patient outcomes. The organization is exploring innovative approaches to strengthen team dynamics and involvement in the recruitment process, demonstrating their commitment to building a positive practice environment.

  • Respectful, professional relationships among providers
  • Supportive leadership with an open-door policy
  • Focus on physician autonomy in practice decisions
  • Active initiatives to enhance provider engagement and team dynamics
  • Commitment to involving physicians in recruitment and practice development

Joining CarolinaEast's primary care team offers the perfect balance of established practice infrastructure and opportunity for personal influence, allowing you to become an integral part of a healthcare system that values primary care as the foundation of community health.
